ALMATY – Today the Mayor of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baybek was presented the ice rink of the Ice Arena with a capacity of 3,000 seats, which will be used for the 2017 Winter Universiade.
According to the management, the share of domestic materials used for construction of the ice rink and venue itself was about 90%. Besides, high-class professionals were involved in the process as well. In total, about 1.5 thousand people were involved in the construction of the Ice Arena.
“Now, it is necessary to expand the ice in the rink, and then to invite professional athletes in order to test it and give their qualitative evaluation. All venues of the Universiade have been built on behalf of the Head of the State N.A. Nazarbayev. The city should develop sport among children, as well as mass and professional sports. It goes without saying that we need such venues in the city which will help our athletes to achieve good results,” the Mayor said.
The venue will be primarily used for winter sports such as figure skating, short track, ice hockey etc. As of today, training schedules for ice hockey clubs, amateur and youth ice hockey, skating and others have been formed. Thus, the management plans to encourage the residents of the city to visit such venues.
“The completion date of the venue is planned for August, 2016. By October, the venue will become available for citizens. All projects meet the highest technological requirements. As one of the features, we included assessment of energy efficiency. Now, we are not interested in bringing the high class equipment with good ratings from abroad. The most important thing is to determine whether it is going to allow us to keep the sufficient consumption of expensive energy costs in the future, which will make the arena available to everyone“, – the Head of the Directorate of sports facilities of Almaty Sergey Apenko said.
It is worth mentioning that after completion of the work at the facility about two hundred jobs will be created, including the working places given for renters who are involved in the maintenance and designing of cafes and gyms.
