BRAGA – The Opening Ceremony of the 10th World University Karate Championship 2016 took place yesterday at Praça da República, in Braga, with a parade of 39 delegations watched closely by hundreds of people who did not want to miss the opening of this major international sport event.
The city center of the Ibero-american youth capital was the chosen stage to host the official opening attended by the Rector of the University of Minho (UMinho) António Cunha, President of the Students’ Union of the University of Minho (AAUM) and President of the organising committee Bruno Alcaide, President of the University Sports Academic Federation (FADU) Daniel Monteiro and the representative of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of University Sports (FISU), Penninah Kabenge.

On an epic ceremony the Championship was declared open by António Cunha. The rector welcomed all participants wishing them “a good stay in Braga and a fantastic championship!”
To close the evening, the Portugal and the FISU anthem joined forces and both ended up on the hoist of the flags that officially opened the tournament, running until Saturday, august 13th, at UMinho Sports Hall in Gualtar.

The first kick on the competition will be given today with the individual KATA at male and female categories.
Everyone is prepared to the beginning of this World Championship!
