7 September 2016

NAPLES – The first half of 2016 brought some good news to FISU with the allocation of the 2019 Summer Universiade to the city of Naples and the formal signing of the binding contract. During the signing ceremony, it was decided to start working immediately and schedule the necessary deadlines which resulted in this first official working meeting from 5 to 8 September.

That is why FISU First Vice-President and Chair of the Summer Universiade Supervision Committee Leonz Eder, Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond, the Chair of the International Technical Committee Jean-Paul Clemençon and the Director of the Summer Universiade Marc Vandenplas met in Naples with Raimondo Pasquino, President of the Regional Agency of the Universiade (ARU) 2019; Gianluca Basile, Director General of the ARU 2019 and Lorenzo Lentini, CUSI President who were decisive in bringing the Universiade to Naples.

The main aim of this FISU visit was to establish the foundations of the three-year collaboration that will unite FISU with the Regional Agency of the Universiade. At the same time, the delegates met with Alan Shaw, President of Epic, and his collaborators Paul Freudensprung, Project Director, and Hubert Porzio Giovanola, manager. Epic will work with FISU and the ARU to establish the foundations of the Organizing Committee including a realistic and powerful Master Plan.

A little less than three years from now the 2019 Summer Universiade Opening Ceremony will take place. The games are scheduled to take place from 20 to 31 July. Time is already running out …
