BYDGOSZCS – Student-athletes from thirty countries were present at the opening ceremony of the 6th World University Shooting Sport Championship in Bydgoszcz, in the capital of the Polish province of Kuyavian-Pomerania. The eighth city in Poland in terms of population (470,000 in the metropolitan area) is known as a cultural centre but is also the seat of renowned academic institutions like the Kazimierz Wielki University, the University of Technology and Life Sciences, its conservatory and the medical college Nicolas Copernicus.
So far, 402 participants are registered for this FISU event: 181 male athletes, 134 female and 87 officials but that number could increase in the coming hours but is already the second record of participation in a WUC Shooting Sport.

The Assistant Secretary of State of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of Poland, John Widera, the rector of the Kazimierz Wielski University, Professor Jacek Wozny, the Director of the Sports and Tourism Department Marcin Drogorob of the province of Kuyavian-Pomerania as well as the Secretary-General of the Polish University Federation, Bartolomiej Korpak were among the prominent guests who attended the speech of the President of the Organising Committee Katarzyna Domanska and the 1st FISU assessor, Verena Burk. City Vice-Mayor Iwona Waszkiewicz officially opened the Championships.
Today, 14 September, competitions will start up with a number of high level athletes, like Olympian medallists among the participants.
