2017 SU Update: 2nd CTI Inspection Visit

TAIPEI CITY – With the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade 329 days away, delegates from the FISU CTI (International Technical Committee) are currently in Taipei for the 2nd Inspection visit which started on 23 September. The aim of the CTI’s visit is to define the readiness of the sports venues for the Games.

In the morning of 23 September, CEO Li-Chiung Su started the meeting and briefed the overall progress to the FISU team and the Technical Delegates. FISU SU Director Marc Vandenplas expressed that the Technical Delegates have rich experiences in preparing for the international event. CEO Su wished all TOC staff members could re-examine the preparations and gain valuable experiences during this CTI inspection.

As for the news communication and information updates in the games period which the Technical Delegates were concerned, “the official website, main operation center, and Athletes’ Village will be operating 24 hours a day, in order to release latest news and ensure timely updated information”, the Games Support Department indicated.

In consideration of several athlete incidents happened during the Rio Olympics, the Technical Delegates were concerned about the medical services provided in the venues and the follow-up ambulance arrangements. “Each event venue will have doctors and nurses stationed on-site along with 2 ambulances stand-by”, a delegate of the Medical Services Department stated.

In the afternoon of 23 September, CTI inspected the venues of badminton, diving, fencing, and rhythmic gymnastics. The general manager of each competition also accompanied the delegates during the inspection respectively.     

2017 SU is regarded an important event that upgrades Chinese Taipei’s sports level. Taipei City Government combines the administrative resources of the central government and 4 other cities and counties to comprehensively upgrade the software and hardware of all sports venues. In addition, the image and look of Taipei city as well as its sports environment will be greatly improved caused by the projects conducted in every aspect for 2017 SU.
