CHIANG MAI – The 7th World University Boxing Championship in Thailand came to an end on Saturday 8 October. The event which started on 3 October had attracted 100 boxers – 20 women and 80 men – from 19 countries, mainly from Europe (13) and Asia (6).
The boxers from Russia lead the medal table by totals, amassing 13 medals, 10 medals in the men’s category (3 gold, 4 silver & 3 bronze) and 3 medals in the women’s (1 S & 2 B). In their wake, the boxers from Kazakhstan follow with 7 medals, with the men mounting the podium 6 times (3 G, 1S & 2 B) and the women once (1 B). Host country Thailand completes the top 3 in the medal table ranking with 6 medals, i.e. 4 medals in the men’s (2 G & 2 B) and 2 medals in the women’s (2 G). Out of 19 participating countries, student-athletes from 15 nations got a medal, i.e. RUS, THA, KAZ, UKR, TPE, FRA, JPN, BLR, POL, IRL, KGZ, SUI, CHN, GER & LTU.
