2017 WU: Almaty stages Open Figure Skating Championship as Test Event

ALMATY – From 9 to 11 December, 2016 the new ice palace “Almaty Arena” will hold the Kazakhstan Figure Skating Open Championship among youth, junior and adult classes. This competition serves as a test event prior to the 28th Winter Universiade 2017 in Almaty.    

The main goal and aim of staging the open championship is the promotion of figure skating in the country, as well as defining the strongest athletes of Kazakhstan, testing the figure skating event included in the 28th Winter Universiade 2017 programme, raise the skill level of the athletes and teams; promotion of healthy lifestyle and summarizing the accomplished work of the sporting organizations aimed to develop figure skating.  

The competition comprises the athletes from national federations of CIS countries, which are members of ISU and athletes from all regions of Kazakhstan and cities of Astana and Almaty. A number of famous athletes will also take part in the competitions, such as Aiza Imanbek, silver medallist of the Kazakhstan Figure Skating Cup 2015; Regina Glazman, Kazakshtan Figure skating champion; Elizabet Tursynbayeva, bronze medallist of the II Winter Junior Olympics, two-time Kazakhstan champion.

It stands to note that the Organizing Directorate of the Winter Universiade serves as the organizer of the competition together with the Ministry of culture and sport and the Mayor’s Office of Almaty.

The overall winners of each category will be awarded with certificates and medals.
