FISU announces Call for Candidatures for 2020 WUC Season

9 January 2017

LAUSANNE  FISU is again pleased to announce that the bidding procedure for the 2020 FISU World University Championships has been officially launched. This will be the 29th season of Championships hosted by FISU which started this format of competition in 1963 with the first competition being Handball, hosted in Lund (Sweden). Over 300 WUCs have been organised since then.

The 2020 WUC season will see the official birth of an innovative type of event – sports clusters. For the first time, and taking into account the need to take better advantage of existing synergies, FISU is proposing the Combat Sports cluster, which will group Boxing, Karate, Muaythai, Sambo, Wrestling and Wushu, and the Mind Sport cluster, composed of Bridge and Chess. These two events will be added to the 25 Championship sport events available.

For 2020, the FISU Member Associations interested in bidding to host a World University Championship should fill in the letter of intention and send it to the WUC Department ([email protected]). The interested Member Associations will then receive a detailed dossier with documents to assist with the abovementioned process.
