ALMATY – On the occasion of the 28th Winter Universiade Almaty 2017 the theatres, concert halls, museums and libriaries as well as the sports facilities throughout Almaty will serve from 20 January until 10 February as venue for cultural events. The most extensive programme will be offered by the city’s theatres including the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Abay and the State Academic Russian Theater of Drama named after Mikhail Lermontov. Beginning on 20 January their repertoires will feature the best directions, embracing The Nutcracker by P. Tschaikovsky, Floria Tosca by G. Puccini, Cherchez La Femme by C. Magnier, The Curse of Andalucia by Frederico G.Lorca, The Government Inspector by H. Gogol, The Swan’s Lake, Carmen, Gissele and many other prominent productions of universal importance. The best performances will also be offered by the Mukhtar Auezov Theatre, the State National Korean Theatre of Musical Comedy and the State National Uigur Theatre of Musical Comedy named after K.Kuzhamiarov.
Too, the Kazakh State Philharmonic Hall named after Jambyl will provide for an eventful cultural programme, including the evening of organ music conducted by Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan G.Nesipbayev, the concert of the State Wind Orchestra of Kazakhstan, the concerts of the laureates of international contests Zhanar Suleimanova, Amir Bisengaliyev and the like.
The Abai Kazakh State Academy Opera will offer an extensive culural programme
The Alatau Theatre will open on 29 January the Alatau Alabynda ethno festival that will last until the end of the Universiade. Pavilions, yurtas and traditional installations will be put out on the theatre’s premises where an exhibition of craftsmen will be held and the national cuisine will be presented. The city’s libraries and museums will hold exhibitions, virtual sports-devoted slide tours as well as meetings with sportsmen and representatives of the republic’s sports sector.
The following exhibitions and master classes will run in four stages embracing Children Bring the World Together (Khalyk Arena, Almaty Arena, the Baluan Sholak Palace of Sports, The Square in front of the Palace of the Republic); The Art Brings the World Together (Khalyk Arena, Almaty Arena); a retrospective exhibition and an exhibition of open-air works The Sport Brings the World Together (at all sports facilities of the Universiade); The Moments of the Universiade (the facilities of the Universiade and The New Museum of Almaty).
Daily concerts of traditional music will take place in the Alatau Theatre (Zher Zhannaty – Zhetisu, Inzhu-Marzhan, Agazhaj, Altaidai Zher Kaida… and many others).
A special circus programme devoted to the 28th Winter Universiade 2017 will go on at the Kazakh State Circus from 29 January until 8 February throughout the Universiade while the Palace of Republic will hold the Zhan Dosym concert on 10 February devoted to the artistic life of Honoured Man of Culture of Kazakhstan Seidolla Baiterekov.
