2017 WU Athletes’ Village ready to host 3,000 Participants

ALMATY – The Athletes’ Village of the 28th Winter Universiade 2017 is busy making last-minute preparations for the sport delegations.

«At the moment, we have over 3,000 representatives of the participating delegations from 59 nations declaring to come. The teams will begin coming in from 24 January and the same day we will see the grand opening ceremony of the village. As of today, the readiness of the site is more than 90%. Now the residential blocks are being outfitted and small household items are being installed», commented Sanym Sharipova, the Head of the Managing Department for the Athletes’ Village at the Directorate for Preparation and Holding of the 28th Worldwide Winter Universiade 2017 in Almaty.

Besides the athletes, the Village will accommodate the Universiade international volunteers coming from Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, China, the U.S. and other countries, all in all nearly 100 people. As per the master plan, the overall accommodation capacity of this Athletes’ Village amounts to 5,000 people.

The central gates to the Athletes’ Village located in the administrative building that is effected in the form of a pyramid are actually the heart of the facilities. Here one can find an accreditation centre, a migration service, the financial department, the sports information centre and the main information centre. At the information centre, the Universiade participants may obtain all information they need to begin with the timetable for competitions to the bus transfer timetable to the sports facilities and to the cultural programme that will run daily both in the Athletes’ Village and in the city.

After the Winter Universiade in Almaty, the Athletes’ Village, as part of the Universiade’s legacy will turn into a residential complex.
