ALMATY – Today, 30 January, FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond met with the Secretary General of the Pyeongchang Organising Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Mr. Hyungkoo Yeo.
“We have delegates from Pyeongchang and Beijing, the respective organisers of the 2018 and 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, here present at the Winter Universiade as observers. They have a legacy plan for these cities after their games and this is interesting for FISU”, Mr. Saintrond commented. “Infrastructure for multisport winter sports games is limited in the world and these former Olympic and Paralympic hosts are interesting for FISU. In the past I already met with the authorities in Pyeongchang and there is an interest to host a Winter Universiade.”
“We are now in the last phase of preparations”, Mr. Yeo said. “All venues are in place. We now focus on the accommodation and the transportation as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. We are completing the opening ceremony stadium by September.” Mr. Yeo, who attended the Almaty Universiade Opening Ceremony was impressed. “I really liked it”, he said. “I t was very successful, I enjoyed it very much.”
Pyeongchang 2018 has a promotion booth in the Universiade Athletes’ Village.
