27 March 2017

TAIPEI CITY – With just 150 days to go before the opening of the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade, FISU officials came to Chinese Taipei to inspect 20 aspects of progress in preparatory work from 20 to 25 March. The inspection included all the major venues, delegation service details, contents of language services, Athletes’ Village operation, and uniform storage and allocation.

In the six-day long inspection visit, FISU Summer Universiade Director Marc Vandenplas led an 11-strong FISU delegation in inspecting more than 20 aspects of Universiade preparatory work, including TUOC’s current structure of the organization and budget, sponsorship and product licensing, torch relay, venue signage system, test event situation, Spring HOD Meeting, the Athletes’ Village, souvenir shops, delegation services, language services, catering services, warehousing and distribution, volunteers, the opening/closing ceremonies, the observer programme, post-Games knowledge management and the Universiade Park and Conference Organizing Committee (COC).

One of the key points of inspection was the Observer Programme, intended to pass on experience of holding the Universiade to future host cities and cities that bid for the right to hold the event so that everything goes smoothly when the event is staged. The Observer Programme will be implemented at the same time the Universiade is held. FISU engaged in in-depth discussions with the OC, the main points of observation will be operations during the event, followed by pre-Universiade planning and the preparatory schedule. Also, this Universiade has added observer experiential visits to give observers an understanding of every aspect of preparatory work so that the experience accumulated during the preparation of the 2017 Taipei Universiade can be passed on.

The FISU delegates inspected the Universiade souvenir store on the first floor of the Taipei City Government building, also praised the progress and the concept of the souvenir designs. In particular, almost 90% of the products in the store are made by local companies, allowing this large-scale multi-sport event to be used to show the power of local manufacturing companies to the world.

FISU Summer Universiade Director Marc Vandenplas praised the willingness to communicate of the Taipei Universiade organizing committee, saying, the cooperation with the Taipei OC has always been very efficient and transparent, and the FISU delegation is very happy with the current progress, and is confident on the successful delivery of the event.

With less than six months to go before the Universiade begins, public participation is gradually increasing and the community is waiting for the event to start with baited breath. OC CEO Li-Chiung Su thanked FISU officials for affirming Taipei’s preparatory work and said that all related units and citizens will be ready in August to greet the arrival of 150 delegations from around the world. She is confident that Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade will be the best Universiade ever held.
