RIJEKA – On July 3rd, the FISU WUC Supervision Committee visited Rijeka the host city of the 2018 World University Handball Championship. The accommodation for the participants was the main focus. Questions linked to logistics, including transportation and catering were also at the agenda. The FISU delegates also took this opportunity to visit the competition venues that will be used during this championship.
On Tuesday, July 4th, the FISU delegates together with members of WUC Organising Committee held a meeting regarding promotional, marketing and educational activities of this 2018 World University Handball Championship. The meeting took place at the Rector’s Office at the University of Rijeka.
The members of the Supervision Committee (Frantisek Taborsky, Technical delegate for handball and Pauline Hamonic, World University Championships Coordinator) met with some delegates from the OC.
Mr Haris Pavletic, the President of the Organising Committee declared: “After hosting European Universities Games Zagreb – Rijeka 2016 last year for more than 5000 athletes, this is a great opportunity to gather our team one more time and to host new students from all around the world. Rijeka will host the competition in handball from July 30th until August 6th, 2018, gathering approximately 500 students.”
Mr Kruno Topolski President of the University of Rijeka Students’ Council: “We are very pleased to show our support for this project and to the students who will be volunteering and gaining new experiences trough it.”

The FISU delegates met also with Mr. Viktor Moretti, RUSA Vice President, Mr Marko Zunic Head of the sports department of the University of Rijeka, Mrs. Tamara Puschmann RUSA, Mrs Aleksandra Rajkovic RUSA and Mr Dinko Jurjevic President of Students’ Centre Rijeka.
During the visit, Mr Marko Zunic stressed out the “big importance and high role of sports in academic life.”
The visit finished on 4th of July with the Question&Answer session showing the willingness for cooperation during the period prior the championship considering all future assignments.
