2017 SU: Slovenian Delegation with 92 members to Taipei

LJUBLJANA – Student-athletes from all over the world are counting down the days until the start of the 29th Summer Universiade in Taipei. Among them are 61 students from Slovenia, who will compete in 13 sports.

                                              

The Slovenian Delegation at the 2017 Summer Universiade will consist of 92 members, 61 athletes and 31 team officials. Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) is pleased to announce that Slovenian athletes will be participating in Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Fencing, Golf, Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Judo, Roller Sports, Taekwondo, Tennis, Weightlifting and Billiards. Slovenia has been participating at the Universiades as an independent country since 1995, and having athletes competing in 13 sports is a new record for the country.

 

Mr Zvjezdan Mikic, the Head of the Slovenian delegation and Secretary General of SUSA, explained: »The Slovenian expedition is heading to Taipei with 61 athletes, which is a lot for our country. Our students-athletes are looking forward to the big event, which will not only give them an opportunity to go head-to-head with some of the best student-athletes on the planet, but at the same time offer them a chance to meet people from around the globe.«

 

The President of SUSA, Mr Patrik Perosa, added: »Our athletes have had a lot of success at the Summer Universiades so far and returned with 20 medals in total. We hope that this year will be no different and our athletes will return with good results as well. At the same time I, wish them to enjoy their stay and have an unforgettable Universiade.«
