Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade – by the numbers

13 December 2017

A university sporting event can last for over an hour if it’s a half marathon, or just 10 seconds if it’s the 100 M dash. What all have in common is a moment of truth where the margin of victory is decided. While this moment is short, it is not fleeting. The work to prepare mentally and physically to perform at one’s best does not flutter away.

This same principle applies to Summer Universiade organisers. From attribution day a city might have several years to prepare. Meanwhile, the 12 days of competition pass by seemingly as fast as the blink of an eye. But it’s these days of strategic planning and execution that largely determine game day performance.

While numbers alone don’t tell the whole story, it hints at what FISU and the host city do to prepare to hold a first-class sports event in Taipei this year.
