Teamwork approach intensifies as local organisers pick up speed.
The FISU Summer Universiade Supervision Committee (CSU) has successfully completed its first visit to Napoli under the leadership of FISU 1st Vice-President Leonz Eder. Eder was accompanied by CSU Vice Chair Kemal Tamer, together with CSU members Hisato Igarashi and Kenny Chow. Also present were FISU staff members led by Summer Universiade Director Marc Vandenplas.
The CSU, charged with the mission of overseeing the successful delivery of the Napoli 2019 Universiade had a busy two-day schedule of meetings and site visits. On day one, their workload included an assessment of the Organising Committee’s structure, finance, planning and workforce, as well as venue visits to the Tennis Club of Napoli and to the marina that will serve as the International Zone of the Athletes’ Village.
Napoli’s innovative and highly-sustainable approach to creating an Athletes’ Village will see cruise ships being temporarily docked at the marina to create accommodation, rather than new building.
A series of venues were inspected by FISU Summer Universiade Supervision Committee and Summer Universiade department.
Day one also saw the first meeting of the CSU team with Luisa Latella, appointed last week as Commissioner of the Regional Universiade Agency for Napoli 2019. Latella’s appointment is expected to speed up many vital workstreams.
Speaking at a joint meeting of the all key Napoli 2019 stakeholders, CSU Chair Leonz Eder said:
“We are very glad to see the good collaboration between FISU and ARU, and with the arrival on board of the freshly appointed Commissioner, we are confident about the speed up of all the procedures… With the precious input of epic [the specialist event management company assisting the local organisers], all the means are now gathered to give a new positive boost to the entire Napoli 2019 organisation.”
Day one continued with further site visits, including to the San Paolo stadium – Italy’s third largest – that will be home to the athletics competitions and the Opening Ceremony.
On day two, extensive meetings allowed a detailed review of the organisers’ plans for each of the vital elements of the Universiade from competition management to transport, from security to broadcasting.
The full CSU is next due in Napoli in 2019, while smaller FISU teams will continue to support the local organisers with frequent visits.
With good collaboration between FISU and ARU, the speed up of all the procedure is foreseen.
