As the part of the Winter Universiade 2019 test events, parallel team competitors took to the slopes for the Russian Cup stage “Tzimik Memorial”, the first that that the FIS-sanctioned, Russian Alpine Skiing Championship took place in Krasnoyarsk.
The team from Moscow region won the first prize in the final of the competition in the Funpark “Bobrovy Log.” A total of 16 mixed teams from eleven Russia’s regions took part in the competitions. Each team included four athletes: two young men and two young women. Altogether 64 alpine skiers competed today.
The team that won first prize following the results of all the runs includes the winner of the Russian Alpine Skiing Championship Valentina Golenkova, the winner of the Russian Downhill Championship Olga Pogrebitskaya, the winner of the Russian Cup in slalom and giant slalom Konstantin Ryabitsa and the winner of the Central Federal District Alpine Ski Championship sports, and the leader of the championship of the Moscow region in downhill, Mikhail Valynkin.
This event is known for its innovative racing format that adds new challenges to alpine racers in a team environment that plays well with fans, both those in the stands and watching the broadcast
Valentina Golenkova mentioned that it was the second Russian Cup stages win of her team: “The race was amazing, very intriguing,” she said. “This is for the first time in Russia, because the slope is rather difficult, with two jumps – it’s never happened before at the Russian Cup. That is absolutely awesome! Our team won the second stage of the race, but all the teams were strong, the contest was serious, you can never guess who will be the winner.”
Having volunteers and event staff who intimately understand the sport has a direct effect on the conditions of the competition, and thus, on the athlete experience
The second and third podium sports were taken by teams from Moscow. Polina Melnikova and Alexandra Karachun, two of the quartet that won silver, were satisfied with their races: “We lost the final, but we are happy to get silver, after all. We are the Moscow second team today, but we broke through and struggled. For us the second prize is a success, but there’s been also a chance to win. The level of the track here is much higher than the level we usually have, so it was more difficult for us. The track is excellent; this is exactly what the athletes need.”
Krasnoyarsk athletes team finished just off the podium, in forth place. Even still, many spectators have come to cheer up the athletes today.
