Rossi Fiammatta’s two Trap event gold medals in the team and individual events highlighted Italy’s dominant first day at the 7th edition of this event

SHAH ALAM – The FISU World University Shooting Championship 2018 is already heating up on the first of four competition days in the state capital city.
Sharp shooters from Italy stole the Malaysian limelight when they bagged two gold medals in the opening day of the championship, held at the Shooting Sport hotbed of Subang International Shooting Range today.
As they stepped into the competition venue, the Italian trio was a hard nut to crack and they were too sharp with their target in the Women’s Trap Team event. The Italian trio spearheaded by Raffaelli Valeria, Rossi Fiammatta and Matassa Ariana completed the event with a total of 201 points to ensure the gold medal.
In the first round, they scored a total of 65 points followed by 70 in the second round and 66 in the final. Ms. Valeria was notably in peak form, contributing 70 of her team’s points.
The Italians were followed by the Russian trio of Krasheninnikova Svetlana, Subbotina Ekaterina and Shulgina Olga. They finished the event in second with a total score of 185 points.
India, an Asian giant in Shooting Sports, proud of as well as they finished a closely contested third, just two points behind Russia with a total of 183. The Indian team was comprised of the student-athletes Gupta Soumya, Basit Anam and Khapra Aakriti.
Later in the afternoon session, an Italian shooter once again stamped her mark of excellenct in the Women’s Individual Trap event. Ms. Fiammata was in a class of her own when she destroyed a total of 40 targets to walk away with her second gold medal on the day. In just her first World University Championship appearance, Ms. Fiammata is already etching her name into the WUC history books.
It was Italy going gold and silver as Ms. Fiammata’s teammate, Raffaelli Valeria scored 39 points finished second while the Russian Ekaterina Subbotina took home the bronze medal after scoring 32 points.

In tomorrow’s events, six gold medal are at stake with the Men’s Individual 50m Air Pistol individual and Team Event, followed by the 50m rifle 3 position (team and individual) as well as men’s trap (team and individual).
