SUBANG, MALAYSIA — During day two of the 2018 FISU World University Shooting Championship it was Slovakia’s day to shine alongside Italy’s continued dominance here as the trio of Filip Marinov, Filip Praj and Michal Slamka put on an incredible performance in the event final by scoring 351 points to take gold.
All three Slovakian shooters were consistently on target, with Marinov leading the team’s contributions with 119 points followed by Praj’s 118 and Slamka’s 114 at the Subang International Shooting Range.
The Slovakian’s brushed aside arch rival Italy who scored a total of 348 points to take home silver. The Italian men’s team contributed to their country’s early show of strength of these championships. The Italians were represented by Simone D’Ambrosio, Alberto Belluzzo and Nicholas Antonini. Of particular note was the performance of D’Ambrosio’s as he scored 121 points, the day’s best individual performer in the team event.
The German trio of Philip Hermes, Stefan Siegfriend Veit and Eugene Kevin Schwarz finished their campaign with 343 points, good enough to take home the bronze in front of India (334 points) in the four-team final.
In the , Philip Praj took Slovakia’s second gold of the day, hitting his first 26 targets en route to outlasting Kunpi Yang of Chinese Taipei, 48-45. Italy’s Simone D’Ambrosio picked up his second medal of as his 35 targets were enough to secured him with the bronze.
In the Italy took their fourth gold so far here in Malaysia at the seventh edition of WUC Shooting Sport by scoring 3,467 points. The Italian were led by the sharpshooting of Lorenzo Bacci’s 1,164 points, along with Pio Giuseppe Capano (1,158) and Simon Weithaler (1,145).
The Russia team of Vladislav Fetisov (1,164 points), Evgenii Ishchenko (1,149) and Evgenii Panchenko (1,147) finished just seven points back of the Italians to take the silver medal.
The Republic of Korea finished in bronze with 3,448 points. The Korean team was led by Taeo Kwak (1,159 points), in addition to Minho Song (1,149) and Geongook Lee (1,140).
In the l event, Italy’s Lorenzo Bacci stamped his name into the FISU record books, winning the gold medal by the slimmest of margins. The Italian finished with a total of 451.0 points to the 450.6 point score put up by Lukas Eugen Fischer of Germany, who finished with the silver. Finland’s Joni Stenstrom took the bronze with his 437.7 point finish.
After two days of this edition of the World University Shooting Sport Championship, Italy continued to dominate the event, finishing up the day with 3 gold medal 1 silver and 1 bronze. Italy leads the overall table with five gold medals, followed by Slovakia’s two gold medals coming both during day two of the four-day FISU championship event.
