Universiade Flame bearer contest starts

Apply today to be part of the team carrying the Universiade flame as it travels from its origins in Torino, Italy to Krasnoyarsk, Russia to celebrate the upcoming 29^th edition of the Winter Universiade

There’s just something about The Relay of the Universiade Flame that resonates with people. It’s a moving troupe of emotion, symbolizing the link university sport and the rich traditions of the Olympic Movement. The passing of the flame from Torino to the host city embodies the close cohesion of the international student community, and just raises the general level of stoke for the upcoming Universiade. Now is your chance to be a part of the team that passes on the glowing torch, hand to hand, across continents to the new host city.

For the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade, the Universiade Flame starts its journey from ignition on the 20^th of September, the International Day of University Sport.

During the federal and regional stages, the participants shall visit 30 cities of Russia, including the cities of Krasnoyarsk Territory. These are cities with federal and major universities as well as cities and towns being the economic, sports and cultural centres: Moscow, Arkhangelsk, Saint Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Simferopol, Rostov-on-Don, Stavropol, Grozny, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Barnaul, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Abakan, Kyzyl, Norilsk, Tura, Kodinsk, Yeniseysk, Kansk, Zelenogorsk, Shushenskoye, Minusinsk, Nazarovo, Achinsk, Zheleznogorsk, Divnogorsk and of course Krasnoyarsk.

Any Russian citizen who is 18-years old and over can apply for this contest. Candidates are required to have sports, scientific, creative, professional or social achievements. It’s not only for famous athletes, but also students, scientists, artists, winners of the title of the best in the occupation, leaders and activists of public movements, citizens deserving well of the country and of the region, can aspire to join the Universiade flame bearers. No less than 600 Universiade flame bearers are planned to be involved in holding the Universiade Flame of the Winter Universiade 2019.

 The last time the Universiade flame made its way through Russia to a Russian host city was in 2013 for the Summer Universiade held in Kazan

To participate in the contest, the applicants for the Universiade flame bearers are to fill in an application in the federal automated information system “Youth of Russia”. You can visit this online platform directly or through a link in the “Get Involved” section on the website of the Games, the section “Universiade Flame.” The applications submission lasts until May 2, 2018.

The passing of the Universiade Flame is one of the truly great and long traditions within the world of major international competitions. The Universiade Flame of the Winter Universiade 2019 is intended to promote this global sports project among the world community, the population of Russia, the residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the host city of the games,  Krasnoyarsk.
