FISU President helps launch a key WU 2019 media initiative during sport event legacy panel

MOSCOW — Hosting a major sports event carries significant prestige for the host city, one that invites a global spotlight, and a transfusion of revitalised infrastructure and economic activity.

 

 

However, host prominent events come with a sizeable financial and human capital commitment. On 23 April, FISU President Oleg Matytsin took part in the interactive session “Follow Up Siberia: Communication Without Borders” where he discussed among the topics how FISU is leading the way as a rights holder to work with its host cities and local organising committees to put on fantastic events for student-athletes that leave lasting benefits in the regions they are held.

 

 

Joining Mr. Matytsin for the panel were Nornickel Senior Vice President Larisa Zelkova, Nornickel Vice President Elena Bezdenezhnykh, Euronews Content Strategy Vice President Niaz Samadizadeh and Olympic Games silver medalist Ilya Averbukh, in an event put on in the Russian capital city by Norilsk Nickel and Euronews.

The quintet of panelists discussed the legacy of major sports events, their role for social and economic development of host cities, ways of increasing the involvement of young people in the volunteering movement and the link between sports, new media and cross-cultural communications.

 

 

Monday’s session marked the launch of Follow Up Siberia! This international digital program is done in cooperation with the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade organising committee, Nornickel and Euronews.

 The panelists debated and took questions from near and far during their interactive session on major sports events and leaving lasting legacies in the cities that host them

The programme features an international creative online contest that just started this month on social media and runs through the end of the Winter Universiade in March 2019. The creative winners get to visit the people and regions of Siberia, share information about their native countries and find common interests.

 

 

The best of the best will get to visit Krasnoyarsk during the Universiade, in the first large-scale Russian media project in support of Winter Universiade 2019.

 

“Follow up Siberia!” will run on Euronews and is an important media initiative between local organisers of Krasnoyarsk 2019, the leading media company and Nornickel
