The build up to the 2018 University Netball Championship at Makerere University in Uganda is beginning to take shape as 12 teams have confirmed participation in this year’s event which is set to take place in August.
According to the head secretariat of the local organising committee, Peninnah Kabenge, the countries of Jamaica, Sri Lanka, Singapore, USA, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Australia, Zimbabwe and host Uganda have confirmed participation in what would be the largest of its kind.
The Ugandan university sports knows that her team would have to be at the top of their game to compete favourably against what on paper will be tough opponents.

Preparations does not get any better than what the trio of Betty Kizza, Joan Nampungu and Muhaimuna Namuwaya who were given the rare privilege as they represented Uganda at the Gold Coast Games.
The Nkumba University players will be expected to lead the rest of the team from their experience playing against the likes of New Zealand, England, Malawi, Wales and Scotland at the Gold Coast Games.

“This is very good preparation for the world meet.In Uganda it is rare to have such preparation,” said Nkumba University Games Tutor Patrick Ssebuliba.
With big dreams like that of Muhaimuna Namuwaya who said “My dream is to turn professional in one of the big leagues in either England or Australia.” the Uganda team will be bursting with expectations come September.
