Individual Time Trial event on first day at WUC Cycling

BRAGA, PORTUGAL — The first day of competition in the FISU World Cycling Championship saw the Individual Time Trial event running the city of Braga, with more than 50 athletes marking their presence in the field.

In the women’s competition, the 18km was won by Tereza Korvasová of the Czech Republic, followed closely by Polish Marta Lach and Germany’s Jaqueline Dietrich.

In the men’s race, Australian Liam Magennis was the big winner, more than 40-seconds ahead of Piotr Konwa of Poland. The bronze medal went to the Cypriot Andreas Miltiadis. The race of 27 km had 36 athletes from various nationalities.

After the race, Liam Magennis said “I’ve done a lot of time-trials and the organization of this competition was very good. I liked the course and I think Portugal is a great country to ride a bike.“

After the Individual Time-Trial events, the 2018 WUC Cycling gets a little more ‘extreme’ on Day 2, as it is time for the XCO-Cross Country competitions. The races will be held in the Centro de Ciclismo do Minho, in Guimarães.

On the same day, the BTT Downhill cyclists have their respective training for their competition and the track recognition for the Road Race will also be held. Lots of action to keep up with! See daily schedules and results here.
