With a rich, deep and vibrant history, FISU has been a leading force for opening doors in physical activity for student-athletes and sports administrators in many countries. But with a global governance role, there’s always the room for pockets of improvement. The sports-loving country of Jamaica is area where FISU’s presence and prominence is growing. And while Jamaica has been a member association since 1975, FISU and the international University Sport Movement has been relatively unknown until recently within the Jamaican collegiate community.

FISU Executive Committee member Anthony Davis has embarked on a programme to change this, by promoting FISU among the rectors, sport directors and the student leaders responsible for sports – at every Jamaican college. This strategic activity is aimed at increasing the awareness of FISU and the educational opportunities available to students and staff in addition to the sports competitions.

The promotional programme began in January 2018, and to date, presentations highlighting FIUS’s history, student forum, conferences and competitions have been made to the rectors of 14 of the country’s 22 colleges. After each presentation, every Jamaican college has put the FISU logo on display on their campus, a physical mark of the growing prominence of the university sports movement throughout the Caribbean island nation.
