#TwoYearsToGo to the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade

In exactly two years to the day, the 30th Winter Universiade will begin in the central Swiss city of Lucerne. From 21-31 January 2021, the premiere university winter multi-sport event will be held in the heart of Alps at seven iconic venues of snow and ice

 

 

LUCERNE — For Swiss winter sports enthusiasts, the countdown to the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade can start in earnest as today marks #TwoYearsToGo to the 30th edition of this event. It’s also the first time since the nearby mountain town of Villars hosted a Universiade in a country synonymous with winter sports.

 

For the 11 days starting on the 21st of January 2021, the best student athletes will compete in at in the midst of the idyllic winter landscapes of Central Switzerland. At these venues local organising committees with extensive experience are in charge of the preparations.

 

Lucerne 2021 President Guido Graf has full faith in the local organising committee to put on a successful event worthy of welcoming the Winter Universiade back to its roots. “The local organising committees with their expert know-how will ensure top-level competitions.”

 

What started with a local organising you could at first have around a kitchen table has grown considerably in the second half of 2018 and early 2019. Today, over 60 people are involved in the project. Everyone involved contributes honorary work while being backed by a professional team in the head office.

“It’s great to work with this motivated team», said Winter Universiade 2021 Managing Director Urs Hunkeler. “Moving forward one important milestone is followed by another, therefore, it was one of the main tasks of the past year to build a strong organising committee.”

 

All eyes will be on the Lucerne 2021 team during the closing ceremony of the Winter Universiade 2019  as the Krasnoyarsk organising committee will hand the FISU flag over to Switzerland as the next host of the Universiade.
