Krasnoyarsk to host 2020 World Junior Curling Championships
In what is immediate validation of Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade’s ambitious legacy plans, the World Junior Curling Championships 2020 have been awarded to the host city of the 29th Winter Universiade. The Championship will be held from 15 to 22 February 2020 in the 3,500 seater Crystal Ice Arena. The venue hosted the very popular Ice-Hockey competition during the recently concluded Siberian Winter Universiade.
World Curling Federation President Kate Caithness, said, “Krasnoyarsk proved to be an excellent host for the recent Winter Universiade and we are delighted to take another Curling event there next season.”
“I am in no doubt that the success of the Winter Universiade will be replicated for our young junior athletes and we look forward to working once more with the Russian Curling Federation and the local organising committee from this region.”
The last international Curling championship Russia hosted was the World Mixed event, in Kazan, in 2016. If there ever was a good reason to relive the exciting men’s gold medal match between Canada and Norway, it is this one!
