Chengdu is set to host the 31st Summer Universiade with an 18 sport discipline programmeCHENGDU, People’s Republic of China – The team of the Chengdu 2021 Summer Universiade has thrown open its doors to invite proposals for the design of their mascot and emblem. This unique opportunity is open to the public; any individual or organization, in China or abroad. Proposals can be submitted on the newly-launched official website .
The emblem, mascot and slogan design should be in line with the values of Chengdu 2021 Summer Universiade: green, intelligence, vitality and sharing. All requirements and specifications are listed on the site. The deadlines for submission are 19 May for the slogan and 13 June for the emblem and mascot.
The selected slogan, icon and mascot will be announced in August this year, and a handsome bounty awaits. The winning slogan has a cash award of 10,000 yuan, while the winning emblem and mascot design will win 100,000 yuan (around 13,000 euros).
The Chengdu 2021 Summer Universiade was launched with much fanfare along with the announcement of the design competition. Also confirmed was the main venue for the opening and closing ceremonies: it will be the Dong’an Lake Sports Center Gymnasium.
The Dong’an Center, located in the Longquanyi district, is spread out over 678 acres, and consists of one main sports stadium with 40,000 capacity and four other multi-functional venues with about 18,000 spectator seats each. This Dong’an Lake Sports Center Gymnasium will be the main hub of the Summer Universiade 2021.
Eighteen sports will be featured at the Chengdu 2021 Summer Universiade, including the 15 mandatory sports, namely: Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Diving, Gymnastics, Artistic Gymnastics, Fencing, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball and Waterpolo. In keeping with the local flavor, the three optional sports will be Wu Shu, Canoeing and Shooting.
