Half Marathon runners racing through the streets of Taipei City in the event’s last edition
NAPOLI — The circuitous course to the biggest test of endurance of the 30th Summer Universiade has been approved by the Comune di Napoli.
The half marathon — or “mezza maratona” in Italian parlance — will have the 250 expected runners embark from the Piazza del Plebiscito. From Napoli’s public square will cross Nazario Sauro via Partenope along the city’s waterfront to Viale Dohrn for a three lap race to the finish line 21,097 metres from the start.
Comradery and cohesion amongst teammates is a hallmark of long distance runners, as evidenced by Team Japan at the conclusion of the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade half marathon
The FISU and IAAF-certified course will be completely cordoned off and sealed from traffic. With a 7 am start on a flat course with no difficulties and an excellent road surface the top university distance runners can expect ideal conditions to compete in.
Meanwhile, the redevelopment of Collana stadium’s athletics track is underway. It will be used for training, while the races will take place at the revitalised San Paolo Stadium.
Look for the passionate sports fans of Napoli to line the 7 kilometre circuit race course, just on the outskirts of the city centre
