STAGE IS SET FOR UNIVERSITY WORLD CUP WOMEN’S FINALE
The first medals – ever – from a global football tournament comprised of university teams will be decided today at the KELME 2019 FISU University World Cup – Football women’s tournament.
Heading into the women’g gold medal game, one question could determine the gold medal outcome: can the University of Ottawa shut down the flowing game play of Paulista University? So far, no women’s team has been able to accomplish the feat.
With three of the tournament’s top four goal scorers, the student-athletes from São Paolo have turned o jogo bonito – the beautiful game – into goals. The Canadians showed steely play to hold off Beijing Normal University in the other semifinal.
In cleanly scoring on all penalty kicks during the game-deciding shootout, the University of Ottawa is no stranger to finding the back of the net.
The bronze medal game should draw huge local crowds – and for good reason: Beijing Normal University has looked like a medalist contender from the opening whistle of this tournament, and the College of Asian Scholars fit the bill of worthy opponent.
