WUC Cycling 2020: Nijmegen aiming to top their 2008 edition

NIJMEGEN – For the second time in university sport history, the Dutch city of Nijmegen will host the FISU World University Cycling Championship, from 10-14 June 2020. The first time was back in 2008, when a very successful edition of the event had been held. 26 countries had participated and current world champion Annemiek van Vleuten had finished on the podium. Similarly, this time too, the World University Championshipmay just offer a preview of future world champions and the organising committee have big ambitions.

 

More than 40 countries have registered for participation and everything is on track for this edition to top the one in 2008.

Joost van Wijngaarden, former participant (2016 and 2018) and now president of the Organising Committee,explains: “We are proud to be given the opportunity again to show the best student athletes what cycling in this beautiful area is like.”

 

“With a proven roadrace course ridden by the best during the Boels Ladies Tour in 2018 and a MTB XCE course made in cooperation with former XCE worldcup classification winner  Jeroen van Eck, we are confident we will be able to deliver some spectacular races,” he added.
