LAUSANNE, Switzerland ― As the International University Sports Federation (FISU) continues to monitor the global situation closely, with regard to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the FISU Steering Committee has decided to cancel the following events, after discussions with the local Organising Committees:
• Rugby Sevens from 17 to 19 September in La Plata (ARG)
• Sport Climbing from 17 to 20 September in Turin (ITA)
• Cheerleading from 24 to 26 September in Wonju (KOR)
• Waterski & Wakeboard from 24 to 27 September in Dnipro (UKR) • Boxing from 10 to 15 October in Katowice (POL)
“Many countries are still facing a challenging situation due to COVID-19 and a second wave has been declared in some places,” FISU Secretary General & CEO Eric Saintrond wrote in a communication to the FISU member federations. “FISU keeps closely monitoring the evolving situation and its impact on our events. Our top priority remains the safety of all participants.”
“Although we regret to announce these additional cancellations, the updates on the pandemic show us that the crisis has not been overcome yet,” added Saintrond. “And therefore, we must take the most cautious decision about our events.”
