The 19-year-old had gone into the free skating final at the Platinum Arena with a five point lead, after having won the short programme the day before with a score of 75.92.

Today, the multiple continental and ISU World Team Trophy champion takes us down memory lane as she speaks about her performance at Krasnoyarsk in this week’s #ThrowbackThursday feature.

Mai Mihara1“The Winter Universiade 2019 was a great experience for me and I did my best,” said Mihara, who represented Konan University at the 2019 Winter Universiade.

“Today, as I look back on my performance in the women’s single figure skating finals, I remember I was so nervous at the beginning, but I was able to enjoy skating very much because the audience supported me. Also, my coach told me I could do it.”

There was no doubt about the fact that Mihara was one of the crowd favourites despite the presence of many Russian skaters in the competition.

“The support that came from spectators was tremendous. Russian spectators are amazing!” she said.

“I really appreciated that. I was so happy I was able to do my best performance as captain of the Japanese team. As a memory, I was happy to be able to take many pictures at the Universiade village and the venue.”
