A big day for the city of Turin, officials met on the occasion of signing the final agreement for the Turin 2025 FISU World University Games, held in winter of 2025 — making them the official hosts of the Games. A special place for the University Sport Movement, Turin was also host to the 1959 Summer Universiade — the first Universiade held in FISU history.
A symbol of Italian sport and having hosted multiple sports events and even appearing as part of the emblem concept for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games, the Mole Antonelliana was the venue chosen for the signing of the contract. Present for this occasion were the highest institutional and academic authorities of the Piedmont Region capital, FISU and organisers of the Turin 2025 FISU World University Games:
Leonz Eder, FISU Acting President
Chiara Appendino, Mayor of the City of Turin
Alessandro Ciro Sciretti, President of the Organising Committee and President of EDISU Piedmont
Fabrizio Ricca, Councilor for Sport of the Piedmont Region
Antonio Dima, President of CUSI, Italian University Sports Center
Lorenzo Lentini, FISU Executive Committee Member
Riccardo D’Elicio, President of the Turin University Sports Center
Stefano Geuna, Rector of the University of Turin
Guido Saracco, Rector of the Turin Polytechnic
The event was later followed by a celebration, which included the Italian national anthem and parade of flags from CUSI, the City of Turin and the Turin University Sports Centre.
“We are so happy to see the FISU Games come back to the city of Turin as the birthplace of the first Universiade in 1959— quite remarkably a true legacy of the Games and the University Sport Movement,” said FISU Acting President, Leonz Eder. “Congratulations to all those involved, and I look forward to seeing you all in 2025!”
