On 17 September, the 11th edition of the University Eights’ (Univerzitní osmy in Czech) rowing race took place on the Vltava river in Prague, gathering the best rowing teams from Czech Republic. It was a double win for Charles University this year, as both the men’s and women’s teams took the top spots on the podium. The competition was fierce in the men’s final, but Charles University ended up winning with only one second before the Czech Technical University team. Already a big win for the university, the women from Charles University also took the top spot with just a nine second lead ahead of the team from Czech University of Life Sciences.
Visually impaired teams from the Leontinka Foundation were also able to participate, proving that rowing is truly a sport for people of all abilities. The race was followed by a competition between younger rowers in a cheerful atmosphere.
The sport event also brought a cultural dimension with a concert of an indie-funk band and the whole event was broadcasted on Czech television.
