2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports inspection takes place in Ekaterinburg with one year to go

Julien Carrel- FISU World University Championships Manager & Pauline Hamonic- FISU University World Cups Sport Manager With just under one year to go, FISU visited the Russian Federation from 12-14 October ahead the Ekaterinburg 2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports. On the programme for this inspection were venue visits and progress reports from various functional areas for the event.

 

A unique format for FISU events, a cluster of six combat sports (boxing, karate, muaythai, sambo, wrestling, wushu) will make up the 2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports and will follow the format of other FISU University World Cups in a university versus university format.

 

From the FISU side, the visit included FISU World University Championships Manager, Julien Carrel and FISU University World Cups Sport Manager, Pauline Hamonic leading the discussions and evaluating progress of the event. Also attending the visits and discussions were various members of the Organising Committee representing each reporting functional area.

 

The inspection kicked off with the visit to the main venue called the Ekaterinburg-EXPO Exhibition Centre, where competitions for six combat sport disciplines will be held. Not only were sports venues visited, but also sites for delegation and officials’ accommodation that were on the agenda as well. In addition, presentations by all functional areas were made to FISU by the Organising Committee to evaluate the progress of the event, complimenting the various site visits.

 

“We were impressed at how well prepared the Organising Committee was and are confident that they will put on a spectacular event of the highest standard,” said FISU Secretary General-CEO, Eric Saintrond. “I believe that they will be more than ready to host the 2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports, which will also be a very useful test event for the Ekaterinburg 2023 FISU World University Games. Congratulations to the Organising Committee and we wish them the best of luck in preparation for this event.”

 

The Ekaterinburg 2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports will be held from 29 September – 8 October 2022, also serving as the largest in a series of test events leading up to the Ekaterinburg 2023 FISU World University Games.

 

Along with the progress of the event, organisers have now launched the on the . Registrations must be made through respective National University Sports Federations (NUSF) for the general entry form. We greatly encourage all universities around the world to get in touch with their NUSF to register their athletes to this event.
