The Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games officially debuted its mascot, Adirondack Mac, on 13 November during the Mt. Van Hoevenberg’s Open House and Job Fair.
The mascot was welcomed by hundreds of people, who came to explore the new Mountain Pass Lodge and try the new mountain coaster and indoor rock climbing. Guests also learned about upcoming events this winter on the NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority’s (ORDA) modernised Lake Placid venues, job and volunteer opportunities and kids’ winter programming.
Adirondack Mac was designed by Kristina Ingerowski, a sophomore at the Fashion Institute of Technology and a native of Farmington, Ontario County. Adirondack Mac will be a highly visible symbol of the Games and showcase the beauty, charm and sports heritage of New York’s Adirondack region.
Adirondack Mac will embark on a tour around New York State, raising awareness of the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games and the North Country region, showing up at various events and activities. Fans can follow Adirondack Mac on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with #adirondackmac.
The 11-day competition will be held from January 12-22, 2023, drawing 2,500 student-athletes and coaches for competitions in various disciplines including alpine, freestyle and cross-country skiing, biathlon, speed skating, curling, figure skating, hockey, short track speed skating and snowboarding. The FISU Games will utilise many area sports facilities throughout the North Country region, including the Olympic venues managed by ORDA.
