FISU inspection visits take place ahead 2022 FISU World University Championships and FISU University World Cups season

Cross Country visit inspection in Aveiro (POR)

From September to October, the FISU Championship and World Cups departments have been travelling to different hosting cities in preparation for the 2022 FISU World University Championships and World Cups season.

The 2022 FISU Championships and World Cups calendar includes seven FISU University World Cups and 15 FISU World University Championships across 18 countries with two new hosting countries of Kosovo and Argentina. These visits were very welcome given the cancellation of many FISU World University Championships and World Cups in 2020, adding to the other upcoming FISU events of the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade held this December, along with the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games in the summer of 2022.

The inspection visits took place in Jachymov and Liberec (CZE) for, respectively, Ski Orienteering and Floorball, Lignano Sabbiadoro and Torino (ITA) for Finswimming and Golf, Innsbruck (AUT) for Sports Climbing, Prishtina (KOS) for Handball, Moscow and Ekaterinburg (RUS) for Powerlifting and Combat Sports, Biel/Bien (SUI) for Orienteering and Heraklion (GRE) for Cheerleading. For the remaining sports, these visits were held virtually.

The Cross Country visit in Aveiro (POR) included a discussion with the University of Aveiro’s architect, who provided an explanation about the route design that will be constructed for the event and that will remain as the Championship legacy for the students once the event finishes. During the Canoe Sprint visit, a press conference was held reuniting FISU Family members, the Vice-President of Bydgoszcz (POL), the Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation of Kazimierz Wielki University and Organising Committees members, showing the strong support that this event has in the region, which has a great tradition in the sport.

The Speed Skating and Beach Volleyball visit inspections held in Lake Placid (USA), were also an opportunity to test functional areas for the Organising Committee in preparation the 2023 Lake Placid FISU World University Games, which will take place on 12-22 January 2023.

“We are thrilled for this upcoming FISU World University Championships and FISU University World Cups season. The organisation is on full speed and we are excited to watch and attend these events that were cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic limitations” says Juan-Carlos Holgado, FISU Sports Director.
