FISU has announced that thanks to the support of the Turkish University Sports Federation (TUSF), the FISU World Cup 3×3 Basketball will happen end of October in Istanbul (TUR).
The event had to be moved from Xiamen (China) for the same reasons that forced the postponement of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games to 2023.
The exact dates of the competition will be announced in the coming weeks.
The format for this edition has been adapted to twelve (12) teams per gender. To get a spot in the FISU World Cup 3×3 Basketball, universities shall participate in the Continental Qualifying Tournaments (QTs) that will take place before the end of July 2022.
The team selection criteria to apply are the following:
- 5 teams qualified via the QTs (1 team per gender from each CUSF event);
- 1 team as previous winner;
- 1 team as host team;
- 3 teams selected by FISU Continental Ranking; and
- 2 teams by wild cards.
Considering that is still possible that some of the Qualifying Tournaments be cancelled and that the participation in some others be limited due to the restrictions in some countries, FISU has decided not to apply the allocation of team’s spots based in D’Hondt Method, which rewarded those QTs withs more NUSFs represented.
To keep a balance, the criteria applied will be the FISU continental ranking, which is built considering the teams’ results in the previous editions of the event.
