Nominations for the 8th FISU Gender Equality Awards are now being accepted.
First presented in 2009, the awards aim to raise the profile of people and projects that increase the participation of women, as well as non-binary and transgender individuals, in sport as athletes or in other roles. As of 2021 the programme now consists of two, biannual awards:
- FISU Gender Equality Project Award
- FISU Gender Equality Champion Award
The FISU Gender Equality Project Award is given to a project that has already been delivered at least one time in 2022 or 2023. Projects that are to be sustained into the future and ones that can be replicated, especially in other countries, will be given priority. A grant of up to €5000 will be provided by FISU to the winning project.
An individual that delivers significant contributions in the advancement of gender equality in university sport in their country will receive the FISU Gender Equality Champion Award. The award winner will be someone who has made their contributions at any level of university sport over many years and is recognised by their NUSF as a gender equality champion in their country. The winner will be invited to be an ambassador in further efforts in developing gender equality and will be invited to be a presenter and speaker at future FISU events.
