After having been cancelled several times due to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the major sport and business summit took place from 7-11 April in Birmingham. FISU’s President Leonz Eder and Secretary General Eric Saintrond attended many meetings in the West Midlands.
Birmingham, United Kingdom, was definitely the place to be for every major player in the sports world during the second week of April. It had indeed been a long time since SportAccord’s last World Sport & Business Summit, which was held on the Australian Gold Coast in 2019.
As one of the most important multisport federations, FISU didn’t miss such an opportunity to catch up with other federations and major actors of the sports industry.
“The SportAccord World Sport & Business Summit mainly offers great opportunities to meet many leaders of International Sport Federations and to attend informative panel discussions and presentations, said FISU President, Leonz Eder. During our face-to-face discussions, we were able to address numerous topics with representatives of sports associations and sports organisations, but also exchange ideas with service companies. I personally see these encounters as the greatest benefit of participating in SportAccord, especially as FISU is one of the most important multisport federations.”
One of FISU’s main aims in Birmingham was to continue to explore new possibilities for future FISU World University Games and FISU World University Championships as well as new projects around the Healthy Campus programme.
“We held many interesting discussions around future projects in Sapporo, Qatar and Great Britain, underlines FISU Secretary General Eric Saintrond. And we would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate Ingmar De Vos from the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) for his election as ASOIF President. (The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations held its General Assembly during the SportAccord Summit in Birmingham.)”
