The next two editions of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) European Universities Games have been attributed following the recent bidding process. Split, Croatia will host in 2028 while Granada, Spain will welcome competition in 2030. The Portugal University Sports Federation (FADU) and the University of Aveiro held the attribution ceremony on 20 April.
Three cities submitted bids to host in 2028 – Split, Granada, as well as Manisa, Türkiye. During the morning of 20 April, all three potential hosts made their official presentations to the EUSA Executive Committee. Following a question and answer session with each candidate city, votes were cast and the 2028 and 2030 editions of the EUSA flagship event were confirmed.
Following the FADU Summit, the official awarding ceremony took place in front of numerous dignitaries including Portugal Secretary of State for Sport Pedro Dias, Rector of the University of Aveiro Professor Paulo Jorge Ferreira, and FADU President Ricardo Nora. President Adam Roczek and Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik both represented EUSA.
President Roczek took the floor for the official announcements and attributed the 2028 event to Split, Croatia. This will be the 9th edition of the event and the second time Croatia will play host, having held the European Universities Games in Zagreb-Rijeka in 2016. The signing of the attribution agreements included bid committee representatives Ivica Puljak, Koceic Bilan, as well as Croatian Academic Sports Federation Vice President Toni Gamulin.
Granada, Spain was next awarded the 10th edition in 2030. The co-host of the FISU Winter Universiade in 2015, Granada will be the second Spanish city to welcome European university student-athletes with Cordoba having hosted in 2012. Carazo Villalonga and Professor Mercado Pacheco signed the official documents, in the name of Granada’s bid committee.
The upcoming two editions will be held first this July in Debrecen-Miskolc, Hungary, with the 2026 EUG going to the Italian coast in Salerno.
