The New Delhi 2024 FISU World University Shooting Sport crowned many new world champions. Among them, Switzerland’s Paris Olympic Games bronze medallist Audrey Gogniat, who won the 10m air rifle event.

The New Delhi 2024 FISU World University Shooting Sport was the last FISU World University Championship of 2024 and what a great ending to a busy season. With thrilling competitions, great results and many medals from the host nation, the event was fore sure an exciting one.

Amongst all the impressive and dedicated student-athletes, one pretty shy competitor from Switzerland was expected to do well. Indeed, Audrey Gogniat claimed the 10m air rifle bronze at this year’s Paris Olympic Games and she was keen to also do well in India.

And she for sure didn’t disappoint, winning the World University title in front of Hyobeen Kim (silver) and Anna Janssen (bronze).

From the third step to the top of the podium!

“I really loved competing here! I really worked hard doing the qualifications and I am pleased with what I managed to do. I believe consistency was key. During the final, I was a bit more stressed, but I believed in myself, didn’t panic and staying calm brought me the gold medal” said Audrey Grogniat. But the tree shouldn’t hide the forest and, knowing Audrey, she wouldn’t want all the limelight to herself. The competition offered very strong representation from Czechia and the host country India with also great performances from Chinese Taipei, Republic of Korea, Poland, Hungary, Italy, France, Germany, Slovakia, Cyprus and Türkiye.

The 10m air pistol event opened the competition, with the host country already claiming three of the six medals. Two in the women’s event (silver (Palak) and bronze (Arshdeep) behind Heing-Yu Lu from Chinese Taipei) and one in the men’s competition (silver for Aakash Bhardwaj, between Czechia’s Pavel Schejbal (gold) and Filip Wagner from Poland in the third place).

The Indian student-athletes carried on just as they started, only leaving one space on the podium for another nation (Hungary 1) after India 2 took the gold and India 1 the silver. The 50m rifle 3 positions men say the victory of Czechia’s Jiri Privratsky in front of… India’s Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Poland’s Maciej Kowalewicz.

Day two also crowned the trap specialists, mostly from Czechia (Zina Hrdlickova winning the women’s competition and Ondrej Statsny and Jan Palacky respectively on the first two steps of the men’s podium) and India (silver for Neeru and bronze for Kirti Gupta in the women’s event), with the first medal from Türkiye (Murat Ilbigli third of the men’s competition)

The third day was the time for the women to compete in the 50m rifle 3 positions and the podium was 100% from Europe, with Agathe Girard (France) clenching the world title in front of Julia Piotrowska from Poland and Anna Janssen from Germany.

But Czechia and India were back in the game for the 10m air rifle men with another gold medal for Jiri Privatsky (in front of Smit Rameshbhai Moradiya (IND) and Maciej Kowalewicz (POL).

Time for skeet on 12 November: the podium of the men’s event is the following: India’s Bhavtegh Singh Gill (gold), Cyprus’ Petros Englezoudis (silver) and Abhay Singh Sekhon also from India won the bronze medal. Giada Longhi from Italy won the gold in the women’s competition in front of Slovakia’s Adela Supekova and India’s Yashasvi Rathore.

The 25m pistol women crowned Minseo Kim from the Republic of Korea in front of France’s Héloïse Fourre and Simranpreet Kaur Brar from India.

The last day offered a cocktail of different events, with three different arms. Italy 1 (Giada Longhi and Francesco Bernandini) won the skeet mixed team event in front of Cyprus (Anastasia Eleftheriou and Petros Englezoudis) and Italy 2 (Damiana Paolacci and Paolo Micheli).

India 1 (Sanjeeta Das and Aishwary Pratap Singh) took the 10m air rifle mixed team world title, Republic of Korea 2 (Hyobeen Kim and Junhwan Lee) took the silver and Poland 1 (Julia Piotrowska and Maciej Kowalewicz) the bronze.

The 25 rapid fire pistol men saw the victory of Yan Chesnel from France in front of Seoyeong Yoon from the Republic of Korea and Filip Wagner from Poland.
