FISU President Meets Provincial Leaders

FISU President George Killian & Vice Executive President of the OC and Vice-Governor of Heilongjiang Province Cheng Youdong

Today, February 12th, FISU President George Killian met with Mr. Cheng Youdong, the Vice Executive President of the Harbin Organizing Committee and the Vice-Governor of the Heilongjang Province. Present at the meeting were the FISU EC members who were already present in Harbin – Mr. Bergh, Mrs Odell, Mr. Eder, Mr. Dymalski, Mr. Matytsin, Mr. Dias, Mr. Al Hai, Mr. Igarashi and Mr. Lamptey as well as FISU Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond, FISU Director for the Winter Universiade Milan Augustin, Director Education and Development Services Kole Gjeloshaj and Media Rep. Christian Pierre. Also present were a number of delegates of the Harbin OC, Mr. Han Guangru, Secretary-General of the OC and his colleagues Qian Maozhong, Yang Liquo, Wang Haijun, Yin Xiaolan and Cao Guifeng.

‘The flame of Harbin 24th Winter Universiade will be ignited in 5 days at Harbin International Conference, Exhibition and Sports Center and the much-anticipated Winter Universiade will raise its curtain’, Mr. Cheng said. ‘On this beautiful occasion, we are honored to welcome FISU President George E. Killian and the FISU officials to Harbin. On behalf of the Harbin Organizing Committee, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all distinguished guests.’

When we attributed the Winter Universiade to Harbin in 2005 we asked you if you were certain there was going to be snow, President Killian recalled. ‘You said to us don’t worry. I can see now why you were so confident as the snow is in abundance here in Heilongjiang Province.

‘We are confident that with the guidance and support of the International University Sports Federation, we will present to the world a Winter Universiade with distinct glamour and features’, Mr. Cheng confirmed.

Tomorrow, February 13th, FISU will hold its Executive Committee meeting prior to the Winter Universiade.
