The first CTI meeting for snow sports took place today in Yabuli under the lead of Roger Roth (SUI) who’s the FISU CTI Chair for winter sports.
Yabuli is the largest winter sports resort in China. Located at a distance of 195 km from the city of Harbin, and connected to that town by rail and by motorway, it will host five sports disciplines for this 24th Universiade: alpine skiing, ski jump, cross-country skiing, nordic combined and freestyle skiing. It will only take the athletes five minutes to get to the competition sites from the Athletes Village. All the sites have been renewed and brought up to international standards in close collaboration with the experts from the International Ski Federation (FIS).
No doubt you know that new disciplines will be appearing in these games. This is the case for freestyle skiing. Freestyle skiing will include several competitions: ski cross, individual aerials (artistic jumps), and team aerials (mixed).
During this meeting the CT Chairs for all the snow sports (including Biathlon and Snowboard which will be held in Maoershan) had the opportunity to make a brief report about the situation in their sports.
All of them were very satisfied with the preparation so far. The only problem came out from the weather conditions which are a bit difficult due to the strong wind we have in Yabuli at this time. But anyway, everything should work according to the normal schedule. Roger Roth took this opportunity also to thanks the organisers for their excellent job and pointed out the fact that they will have to continue to work with FISU people as a team in order to make these Games a huge success.
