Today, February 18th, the Harbin Organizing Committee hosted a ceremony for the first issuing of the Harbin WU Commemorative stamp.
FISU President George Killian, an avid stamp collector specializing in University Sports and Basketball, was all ears when the two artists responsible for the artwork of the stamps, Ms. Shang Yu and Mr. Wang Huming of the Artwork Editing Division of the Postage Stamp Printing Bureau of the China Post Group, explained him their artwork.
‘We turned around the stamMr. Killian signing first day sheetsp the give more the impression of movement’, Ms Shang said. ‘We used a special printing technique to give a light effect in the snow flowers. It was quite a challenge for us as this stamp represents a big sporting event for China.’
After the speeches, Mr. Killian was invited the crack a giant ice block with a hammer to make appear an enlarged copy of the stamp. After the ceremony Mr. Killian was invited to sign the first issue cards with his name. No need to say a lot of Chinese collectors flocked around him to get this treasured collector’s item.
