First K125 competition ever in Yabuli
It was a big day today in Yabuli as we had five events in a row. Indeed, after yesterday’s cancellations because of the bad weather, the organisers could count on superb sunny conditions.
K125
For the first time ever in China, a K125 international competition was held in Yabuli, and we could say that the organisers made a fantastic job. They had not experience and they learned everything thanks to their fruitful collaboration with FIS experts.
Only ranked seven after his first jump, David Unterberger from Austria, took the gold medal. Indeed, as all the competitors made their best during their first jump, David made a superb second jump playing with the wind. Kim Hyun-ki the K90 winner took the silver medal and Heung-Chul Choi, also from Korea the bronze.
Aerials
It was again a Chinese domination on today’s aerials as the men’s team won three medals. With a “triple full double full full” and another “triple full, full, full”, Zongyang Jia was the best on the hill. Superb in the air and with two perfect landing, he was the winner without any hesitation. His two teammates: Zhongqing Liu and Chao Wu followed him on the podium thanks to their easiness and confidence during their jumps. Timofei Slivets, one of the favourite jumpers from the Belarus, missed on of his jump and finished at the fourth place.
Cross country
It seems that the cross country competition of this 24th Winter Universiade will turned as a Russian championship. Indeed, the Russians skiers are so strong that we don’t know which country will be able to beat them. This time again, during the pursuit, they were simply invincible as they took the three first places in the women’s event and the five first places in the men’s event! Valentina Novikova took her second gold medal of these games and Segey Turychev the first one.
Nordic Combined
We had a fantastic fight today between three excellent teams for the Nordic Combined K90-3x5km title. Japan, Germany and Russia made their best to catch the gold and the show was superb till the end. Ranked third after the K90, the Japanese Team started with 1.17 minutes handicap, behind Russia and Austria. Thanks to their good ski abilities, Nagai Takehiro, Kaede Naoki and Hatakeyama Chota took the lead and finished first. Germany was placed second and Russia third.
Super g
They did it again! After the downhill two days ago, the skiers from the Swiss team repeat their superb results in today’s Super G.
Tamara Wolf (gold), Sandro Boner (gold) and Christoph Boner (bronze) were once again on the top today and are still candidates for more medals as they will compete in all the Alpine events.
