FECUNDE Members Satisfied with Delegation’s Performances at National University Games

Business as usual for the members of FECUNDE, National University Sports Federation of Costa Rica. In spite of being in the middle of JUNCOS, the Costarican University Games, the members (FECUNDE) met on September 4th. During this meeting, the members of FECUNDE, expressed their satisfaction about the sports performances of the university delegations in JUNCOS and the evolution of the student sports movement in their country.

Carlos Villalobos, vice-rector for student’s life of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and member of FECUNDE, commented that these games show a high standing organization in Costa Rican sports, and are increasing the competition level and enhancing Costarican delegations for international representation. ‘Thanks to this kind of activities, we have the possibility to detect internally which are the best athletes and support them in the international competitions’, concluded Villalobos.

Randall Gutierres, representative of the National University (UNA), said that his university has increased the investment in culture and sports practice and the results begin to show. ‘We have observed a growth in sport participation. Our university is also very satisfied with the performance of our delegations’.

The Costarican University Games closed on September 5th and UCR handed the seat to the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (ITCR) that will be the host for the Games next year. Rosaura Mendez , member of FECUNDE and Treasurer of the Panamerican University Sports Organization (ODUPA) said that the ITCR is glad to welcome the athletes for the next edition. ‘We are preparing for well organized games with a high level of competition. It will be a great celebration and a party for the entire university’, said Mendez, who is also the ITCR Sports and Culture Director.
