Mr. Bekir Korkmaz has been appointed as the General Coordinator of Erzurum 2011 Winter Universiade replacing Mr. Yunus Akgül since the latter has been appointed as the General Director of Youth and Sport of Turkey.
Bekir Korkmaz, who was born in the city of Erzurum in 1966, completed his primary, secondary and high school education in the same city. After graduating from the Faculty of Political Sciences of Istanbul University, he served in senior executive positions in the Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Finance and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Mr. Korkmaz, who also worked as an Adviser to the State Minister Responsible for Youth and Sports, is known as an experienced bureaucrat. He is married and has three daughters.
