2010 Woodball Update

 Kampala City

 

The 3rd World University Woodball Championship will be hosted in Kampala, Uganda from August 22nd to 26th, 2010. Kampala is the largest city and capital of Uganda. It will be a first for the National University Sport Federation of Uganda to host a FISU event, increasing the FISU activities on the African continent.

Kampala City, is one of the districts of Uganda, and it is the only urban district in the country. Kampala City is the hub of the country’s economic, political, and administrative activities. About 2.3 million people (66% of national urban population) live and/or work in the greater Kampala region. About 80% of the country’s industrial services are located in Kampala and the city generates a big proportion of Uganda’s GDP. The main campus of Makerere University, one of East and Central Africa’s premier institutes of higher learning, can be found in the Makerere Hill area of the City. Kampala is also home to the headquarters of the East African Development Bank, located on Nakasero Hill.

Accommodation & Accreditation

All participants will be accommodated in double and triple spacious rooms at Speke Hotel. The technical delegates, judges, and referees will be accommodated in single rooms at Speke Hotel. FISU Family and Guests will be accommodated at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort within the same complex as Speke Resort. Accreditation will be carried out on arrival at the championship hotel

Competition Venue

The venue of the 2010 WUC Woodball is at Munyonyo Speke Resort on the shores of Lake Victoria. The venue has been inspected by the officials of IWbF. The Championship is going to be conducted on the lawn of Speke Resort Munyonyo a five star hotel, this hotel has a green cover of 70 acres, which are more than enough to put up 36 fair ways for the championship. IWbF has guaranteed sufficient equipment.

Transport

Guests will be received at all points of entry and escorted to hotels by lead cars. The management of Munyonyo Speke Resort, the venue for the championship, has already offered shuttle buses that will transport participants from the airport to the games village. This will be supplemented by a fleet of 10 buses from the member Universities. FISU Family and guests will have a dedicated car.

Medical Assistance

A well equipped Medical Centre will be set up with Paramedics and first aiders full time at playing venue, a resident Doctor and a referral system for complicated cases to the big hospitals which are in a radius of 3 to 7 km.
