On the afternoon of December 4th, FISU 1st Vice-President Claude-Louis Gallien paid a visit to construction site of the Universiade Center (including the main stadium, the main gymnasium and the natatorium), the MMC and the Athletes’ Village, accompanied by Mr. KE Gangming, Deputy Director-General of the Executive Office of the Organizing Committee for the 26th Summer Universiade and Mr. LIAO Yuhui, Deputy Director-Genral of the Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality. During the visit, Mr. Gallien also watched the introduction video of the Universiade Center.
Mr. Gallien was briefed on the latest development of the construction of the Universiade Center. The metal structure of the main stadium has already been accomplished. Most buildings in the Athletes’ Village will have the metal structure completed at the end of 2009. Interior decoration and exterior works for the MMC also will be finished at the end of December, and the MMC will be fully completed by February 2010.
On the morning of December 5th, Mr. Gallien paid a visit to the Executive Office of the Organizing Committee for the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen accompanied by Mr. LIANG Daoxing, Vice President of the Executive Board. In the meeting room of the Executive Office, Mr. Gallien was given a warm welcome by officials and staff of all departments.
In the meeting, the FISU 1st Vice-President gave a speech, introducing FISU’s organizational structure and sharing his views on mutual communication between FISU and Shenzhen. After the speech, he answered questions raised by the staff.
In the afternoon of December 5th, , the International Volunteer Day, Mr. Claude Louis Gallien attended the Unveiling Ceremony for the Volunteer Logo and Slogan for the Shenzhen Universiade. During the ceremony, he also met Mr. Kenny CHOW, Secretary-General of the Asian University Sports Federation.
The logo for the Universiade volunteers is titled “Window of the World — Embrace World with Heart”, and is composed of the letters V, U and S, the initial letters of “Volunteer”, “Universiade” and “Shenzhen”. The three letters are in red, yellow and blue, representing youth, energy and passion.
The slogan “I’m Here” was selected from more than 10,000 entries for it connects with the Shenzhen Universiade slogan “Start Here,” and is easy to remember, and represents volunteers’ sense of responsibility and pride.
After the unveiling ceremony, Mr. Gallien also attended the Opening Ceremony of the 25th campus sports meet of Shenzhen Experimental School and encouraged the students and teachers to enjoy sports and to be involved in Universiade.
And in the evening, Mr. Gallien met with Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, Vice-President of FISU and President of the Asian University Sports Federation and the Federation of University Sports of China. They had discussions on the preparations of the Shenzhen Universiade.
